We are now in full fall mode in southwest Virginia at The Coves on Smith Mountain Lake. Many exciting things are happening with our next home, The Ridgeview. Excavation for the foundation has already taken place, and on Oct. 18 the pre-cast concrete basement walls by Ideal Building Systems were set into place by crane.
Time savings, efficiency and accuracy are a few of the reasons why pre-cast concrete basement walls by Ideal Building Systems were used for tis home. Pre-cast concrete wallsare built off-site in a controlled environment using formed molds. The concrete is strengthened with fiber reinforcement and rebar and then cured and affixed steel studs and insulation for a total T-Value of R-23. Ideal pre-cast concrete walls carry between 5,000+pounds PSI (per square inch), whereas conventional, concrete-poured walls carry between 3,000 and 3,500 PSI. All walls are certified by a third-party engineer, UL fire-rated and are vapor- and damp-resistant. The various concrete panels are transported to the construction site, lifted by a crane and set into place. This systemized method is in sharp contrast to standard block or poured foundations. Pre-cast concrete walls do not require concrete footers to be poured. Instead, compacted crushed stone is used, which provides for a strong base and provides for better weight distribution and improved drainage. Almost all roads and railway lines use crushed stone as a base, both of which support far more concentrated loads than the foundation of your home The builder of The Ridgeview, DA Peters of Southern Heritage Homes, said Ideal pre-cast wall systems are the best solutions for basements. The strength of the panels, dimensional accuracy and consistent delivery schedule, as well as having the insulated foundation already prepped for interior finish, are the reasons he prefers Ideal pre-cast walls.
