Three commercial airports and one general airport for private planes serve 40-mile-long Smith Mountain Lake. Roanoke Regional Airport is located about 1 hour from The Coves and Raleigh-Durham International Airport is about a 2 hour drive.

How much are the homes at the coves?

Are homeowners able to rent out their homes at will (like on VRBO and the like)?
Franklin County has a restriction on renting out homes for less than 30 days. Members of the Coves Club can utilize the Getaway Club Membership to generate revenue from their homes for the time periods of their choosing.
What is the Getaway Club?
It is a membership that allows homeowners to submit variances in their homes for the weeks of their choosing and receive 80% of the dues received by the club.
Are the homes on septic systems?
Each homes has its own packaged septic system. Final post-treatment phase water is pumped to the mass drainfield located on the ridge.
If an approved builder is used, is the Architectural Review process still required?
The Architectural Review process is required on all new construction. The cost for the review is $2000.
What is the minimum square footage required for houses in The Coves?
The minimum square footage is 1,500.
What is the maximum square footage allowed for houses in The Coves?
The maximum square footage allowed is 6,500.
Are snowmobiles or ATVs allowed on the trails?
Snowmobiles and ATV’s are not allowed on the trails, with the exception of ATVs involved in the maintenance of the trails.
Are the trails on community property?
Trails have a 10’ access easement across those lots that are crossed by the trail.
